Vladimir Putin has been subjected to a diplomatic boycott at the G20 summit in Brisbane. Australia’s Governor General and Attorney General met Obama and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping when they arrived. Nobody greeted Putin near the ramp except the Assistant Minister for Defence and the meeting with placards “Putin, Killer” and calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
Canadian Prime Minister Harper after shaking hands told Putin to get out of Ukraine.
“I guess I’ll shake your hand but I have only one thing to say to you: you need to get out of Ukraine,” Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper
During the bilateral meetings Vladimir Putin, David Cameron, François Hollande and Angela Merkel with British Prime Minister David Cameron warned that the West could impose more sanctions on Russia. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said events Ukraine were hindering efforts to grow the world economy.
The harsh criticism of Putin gave Barack Obama: “We’re leading the international community in the fight to destroy the terrorist group ISIL, we’re leading in dealing with Ebola in West Africa and in opposing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine – which is a threat to the world, as we saw in the appalling shoot-down of the Malaysian jetliner”.
The Russian side also believes that the organizers showed a shocking attitude to Putin in many details: for example, for the general picture of G20 leaders Putin was given the place on the edge of photo, and at lunch he sat alone at a separate table.
As the result, Putin left the summit too soon, skipping a working breakfast on Sunday. The official version of Russia – he needed to sleep and because he needed to return to meetings in Moscow.
